Obituary for James J. Howley

James J. Howley
Hampden- James J. Howley Jr., 65, died March 14, 2017 at a Bangor Hospital. He was born February 29, 1952, in Hackensack, New Jersey, the son of the late James J. and Helen (Babey) Howley Sr.

After graduating from Husson College, Jim entered into the insurance business. First, working a Dunlap Insurance Company until moving to Cross Insurance where he retired from after many years of service.
Jim was an avid fisherman, bird hunter, and enjoyed raising and training bird dogs. He loved to sail and was co-owner of the “Wynot” with his friend Al Robbins. Together they would sail the Maine coast. Jim would always have a big smile on his face when he was behind the helm. Later in retirement, Jim enjoyed his daily golf game at the Bangor Municipal golf course. He was a kind and generous man who always thought of others before himself. Jim had a great sense of humor to the very end.

Jim is survived by his mother, Helen Nosal; brother, Andrew Nosal; two sisters, Patricia Fitzpatrick and Dorothea Ervin; his best friend, Al Robbins and Al’s partner, Leisa Barker; special friend, Paul Cook, and Jim’s one eyed Boston Terrier “Gibbs” whom he loved deeply.

A gathering to celebrate Jim’s life will be held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Those wishing to remember Jim in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, Maine 04401.
