Obituary for Ann Robena Bradford

Ann Robena  Bradford
Ann (Cahill) Ladner Bradford, 97, passed away peacefully March 18, 2017, one month prior to her 98th birthday.

She was born in Bangor, April 18, 1919, the daughter of Robert and Mary (McGee) Cahill. Ann graduated Valedictorian of her class at John Bapst High School and was a 1941 graduate of the University of Maine, earning a B.A. degree in Business Administration and Economics.

Ann started her teaching career at Howland High School where she taught English, Latin and Drama. She left teaching to raise her two children. In 1969, she returned to her career to teach at St. Joseph’s Parochial School and in 1970 she was hired by the city of Old Town and taught at Joseph Leonard Middle School, until her retirement in 1979.

Ann was a member of the Resurrection of the Lord Parish, Holy Family Church, Phi Mu Pi Chapter, the Orono Women’s Club, and the Orono- Old Town Omega Club.

She was an avid reader, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and summers at Beech Hill Pond. She cherished her time spent with her family and friends. Ann had strong family values and loved unconditionally, and had many lifelong friends.

Surviving are her son, Robert R. Ladner and his significant other, Mary Hughes of Orono/Otis; daughter, Pamela Hackett and her husband, Timothy of Orono; she was known as Gam to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kaitlan Jewell of Brewer, Kylene Hackett of Orono; Annie and Timothy Jewell both of Brewer; extended families of Hurds, Gershmans and Demers; Lees, Donahues and Hodge.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard “Dick” Bradford; a brother, J. Roland Cahill; the father of her children, Roy A. Ladner; extended family, Mary Demers, Mary Bourneuf, cousins, Mary Richard and Dorothy Hodge. A special thank you to the staff at Dirigo Pines and Beacon Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Orono Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 72 Main St. Orono. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Resurrection of the Lord Parish, Holy Family Church, 429 Main St., Old Town. Folks are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the Parish Hall, following the service. Spring interment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Orono. Gifts in Ann’s memory may be made to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center, C/O EMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME. 04402-0931.
