Obituary for Elsa Yolanda Moreno (Cuban)

Elsa Yolanda Moreno (Cuban)
Elsa Y. Moreno
Bangor
Elsa Yolanda Moreno, known to most everyone as Lita, was born on April 17th in Panama City, Panama. Elsa met the love of her life, Alejandro Moreno, after his sister sent him over to change her lightbulb. They were married in 1956 and had their first son, Alex. From there, Elsa and Alejandro began a journey to the United States for a better life for their family and to live out the American dream.
Their journey to the U.S. was not easy, but together they settled in Bangor, Maine. Elsa and Alejandro had three more children in Maine; America "Amy", Alvin, and Alfred. They planted roots in their community, making their neighbors part of their extended family. Elsa was a fierce Democrat and participated in the campaigns of her family member, John Baldacci, with her husband.
As anyone who knew Elsa knows, her biggest accomplishment in her life was her family. She was immensely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild and incredibly devoted to her husband Alejandro. Also counted among her family is the Latin community she loved and cherished from the beginning of her time in Maine.
Of all of her wonderful qualities, Elsa will be remembered most for the care she took of others. No one could take care of you like Lita. Apart from her own family, Elsa took care of countless children from the time they were weeks old to school age and beyond. She had a special fondness for animals, always taking in strays, animals whose owner died, or unwanted animals from others. She was known for having her pets live 20 years and beyond, despite the nightly table scraps she snuck. Lita's legacy will also be her delicious cooking. She showed her love to others through her home-cooked Latin meals. Needless to say, every Christmas, friends, family and neighbors came to Lita's door in search of her delicious food.
There will not be a day that goes by that we won't miss our Lita. We will miss her presence, her love, and, of course, her delicious tamales. She will be fondly remembered for her strength, her perseverance, and her love for her family. We will miss you every day for the rest of our lives, Lita. We know you are home with the angels and your beloved mother, Rosa, Alejandro's parents, Alejandro and Sebastiana, and your "son" Paul Baldacci Sr. Te Amos.
Elsa is survived by her best friend and husband, Al Moreno; her children Alex and wife Jean Moreno; Amy Cummings and husband Tom Cummings; Alvin; Alfred and his partner Jean Robertson; her grandchildren Paul Baldacci and wife Hannah; Elise Baldacci and husband Devin Deane; Ryan Cummings; Alfred Moreno Jr.; and her great grandson, Tate Deane.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, 207 York St. Bangor, with a reception following the service. A Memorial Mass will also be celebrated on May 12th at 11:00 am at St John's Catholic Church.
Those who wish to remember Elsa in a special way may make gifts in her memory to All Saints Catholic School, PO Box 1749, Bangor, ME 04402-1749; Catherine Morrill Day Nursery, 96 Danforth St, Portland, ME 04101; or the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave, Bangor, ME 04401.
