Norman Robert Rossignol
BANGOR – Norm Rossignol, 91, died after a short battle with leukemia September 16, 2017, at a Bangor hospital, with his daughter and son by his side. He was born November 18, 1925, in Old Town, the son of Frederick and Bernice (Ashe) Rossignol.

Norman grew up in Milford and attended Old Town schools. He enlisted in the US Army when he turned 18. Norm proudly serviced in the 94th Infantry Division. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple Heart. Norm also fought in Korea with the 25th Infantry Division. In 1955, he married Connie McGee. In 1964 Norm retired from the US Army and settled in Brewer. He became an electrician for the University of Maine, where he worked for 25 years. Since 2003, Norm has welcomed thousands of troops back to the United States as a member of the Maine Troop Greeters. He also volunteered to educate area students about what freedom means in the Cole Land Transportation Museum’s Veterans interview program. He also was an active member of the American Legion Post #12, in Bangor. Norm continued to enjoy hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling at “the hunting camp” right up to just before his death.

Norm is survived by his daughter, Diane Rowell and her husband Ken; son Rob Rossignol and his wife, Cindy; siblings, Rosemarie Hooks, and Leo Rossignol and his wife, Mae; many nieces and nephews; and his fishing buddy, Ed Youngblood. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Connie, and grandson, Lee Rowell.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service. Interment, with military honors, will be at Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta after the reception.
