Obituary for Alexander "Sandy" L. Stymiest

Alexander "Sandy" L. Stymiest
Alexander “Sandy” Stymiest, 86, died May 13, 2018 at EMMC after a brief illness. He graduated from Brewer Schools and the University of Omaha.
At 16 he joined the Air National Guard and at 22 he had the opportunity to go through Flight School. His life’s dream! After graduating from pilot training in 1954, he was back in the Maine Air Guard, married Beulah “Bea” Ackley and had two children. During the Cuban Crisis, he went into the USAF. He was operational in six different jet fighters – F84, F94, F89, F100, F4 and the F106, his favorite. His love of flying was well known. He flew 204 missions in Vietnam and retired with 32 years of service.
Sandy loved life – his times with family at Branch Lake, ski trips, Disney and Hawaii with grandchildren. He was a sportsman – fishing with his father and brother and bird hunting with his friend Bruce and pals. He enjoyed his morning coffee with his McDonalds crowd. He was a carpenter and built his house and camp and helped his friends with their projects. Sandy was a member of the Ralph J. Pollard Masonic Lodge #217 A.F. & A.M. of Orrington.
Survived by his wife of 63 years Beulah “Bea” Stymiest, his daughter Ann and her husband Donn, his son Jim, four grandchildren Brian, Chris, Kyle and Kelly, niece Leigh and nephews Scott and Adam. He was predeceased by his father William Stymiest, his mother Etta Stymiest, and his brother Arthur Stymiest.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 PM, Sat, June 2, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S. Main Street, Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, 55 S. Main Street, Brewer, following the service. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the charity of your choice. Interment will be at a later date in the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
