Obituary for Carl E. Mitchell

Carl E. Mitchell
Corinth – Carl E. Mitchell went home to be with the Lord and his loved ones May 25, 2017. He was born in Corinth, on August 7, 1926, the son of Glen C. and Liela B. (Jenness) Mitchell. He attended school near the Robyville Covered Bridge and East Corinth Academy. He left school at age 16, as was common practice in the 1940’s and went to work driving and loading a truck to haul pulp and logs. He was drafted into the U.S. Army two years later and served in Italy as an ambulance driver and a motor pool sergeant. He taught G.I.’s to drive trucks and German prisoners to repair them. He often said, “We were all boys that just wanted to go home.” He came home in 1946 and soon ended up behind the wheel of a big old truck.

He married Marjorie A. Dumont on December 11, 1948 and they raised a family of four children. He and Mom bought a home in Corinth and sent their kids to school. They kept sending their kids to school until they graduated from college. Mom kept a wonderful home and Dad kept on driving long hours to make it all happen. He retired in 1986. Carl was predeceased by his wife of 54 years and continued to live in the new home they had built. He was always friendly and willing to help other people. He shared the last 13 years of his life with Louise (Pinkham) Ward and adopted her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren into his heart.

Survivors include children: Ken and Judy Mitchell, Donna and Craig Archer, Dianne and Robert Wilson, Doug and Ramona Mitchell, and daughter-in-law Doris and Tim Chapman; grandchildren: Ken II and Amber Mitchell, Stephanie and Mike Laplant, Suzanna and Mike Cravin, and Abbey and Jake Mitchell; step-grandchildren: Wendy and Lyman Frost, Jason and Jennifer McCubbin, Melissa and Kermit Tate, James Wilson and Gregory Humphrey, and Todd and Tena Wilson and family; great-grandchildren: Erika and Emily Mitchell, Zack and Brooke Laplant, and Leah and Levi Cravin; step-grandchildren: Sydney, Elijah, Emma, and Denise Frost.

Other relatives and special friends include: Ken and Barbara Dumont, Cathy and Kevin Hewes and daughters Sydney and Libby, Stewart, Eric and Devon Brooks, Linda and Spencer Greatorex and family, Mark Jenness, Valerie and Terry Grant and family, Kevin and Cathy Tilton and family, Bill and Marie Pomeroy, and his Truckers Breakfast friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, May 31, Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Pastor David Bean officiating. Relatives and friends may visit from 11 a.m. until time of service. Following the service, family and friends are invited for refreshments and conversation at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., followed by committal with military honors at the Corinthian Cemetery in Corinth. Those who wish to remember Carl in special way may make gifts in his memory to: Donna Archer, 1072 Mullen Rd. Stetson, ME 04488. Please write "Lungs For Abbey" on the memo line.
